Jean Palmer

Each Thursday, we feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn about:

  • Name: Jean Palmer
  • Hometown: Council Bluffs
  • No. of years at UNMC: Eight years

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.

I work in the administrative office with the UNMC Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. I am the assistant to the seven head and neck oncology surgeons. Some of my duties include coordination of all their calendars, meetings and travel. It can be a big challenge, but it’s one I enjoy!

Leadership is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed leadership at UNMC.

Leadership is witnessed on a daily basis through the physicians I assist. They demonstrate leadership beyond patient care, such as teaching/mentoring and in positions held on multiple committees.

What is your favorite fall activity?
I enjoy all fall festivities and the anticipation it brings for the upcoming holiday season!

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I have three married children, two boys and one girl. I also have three puppies, two boys and one girl.
  • I will be a Grammy very soon!
  • When I initiated my UNMC job search, I also found the perfect job for my husband, so we both applied for jobs. I was disappointed when he was offered his job first, but it all worked out, and we ended up starting our employment with UNMC the very same day!
