Lookin’ at U – Victor Holly III

Victor Holly III

Victor Holly III

Each Thursday, we feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn about:

  • Name: Victor Holly III
  • Hometown: Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. I was born in Fort Worth, and later moved to Arlington, Texas.
  • No. of years at UNMC: 17 years

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.
I have been very lucky to be able to incorporate things I enjoy into my job, from learning new technology to problem-solving issues with data and equipment. I provide technical support to the human resources department including hardware, software and just about any other computer-related needs. I have assisted on several human resources projects including Reward & Recognition, the Employee Diversity Network, Culturefest, Diversity Lectures and Cultural Arts Series and several other campus initiatives. I also maintain human resources websites, including Employee Discounts, Employee Guidelines, HR Procedures, and Title IX. I provide reporting services for human resources information across the campus. I also get to use my interest in photography and video to work with projects such as the graduation video for the Child Development Center, along with many other artistic and creative needs that have come along over the years.

Being a trusted resource is one of UNMC’s brand values. Please tell us of a time you witnessed the brand value in action.
I would have to say that due to recent developments in my personal life, I have had to go to our benefits office for assistance and have had the privilege of seeing them assist others and even myself. Their knowledge and willingness to assist our employees is outstanding.

What is your favorite fall activity?
Easy — football, Oktoberfest, and watching the leaves turn colors.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I witnessed and survived the second largest volcanic eruption in the last 200 years.
  • I enjoy genealogy. (My great-great grandfather, Bishop James T. Holly, the first African-American Protestant Episcopal bishop, spent most of his career in Haiti.)
  • I have a wonderful wife and three intelligent, beautiful daughters and two wonderfully handsome and smart grandsons.

Victor, your enthusiasm for life is a secret that deserves to be shared. You have helped me keep going so many times when the stress levels have gotten to be too much to carry. You help me see the way through, and find ways to break the job down into manageable parts.
