UNMC and Nebraska Medicine students and employees are invited to join Dana Cowen, associate curator of European art at Joslyn Art Museum, as she presents a slide illustrated overview of “Fugitive Colors in Joshua Reynold’s Portrait of Miss Franks” from noon to 12:50 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Sorrell Center, Room 2018.

Joshua Reynolds (1723-92) was the first president of the Royal Academy in London and the foremost portraitist in England. Interested in chemistry and highly experimental with his pigments, Reynolds’ saw many of his paintings begin to deteriorate even during his lifetime.

This talk will consider how Joslyn’s Portrait of Miss Franks came to fruition and how it fits within the larger discussion of Reynold’s exploratory methods and techniques.

Please RSVP to Haley Armstrong by Nov. 6 if you are able to attend. There must be a minimum of 10 people signed up for the program to be held.

The event is offered through the Passport Partners program, which provides free museum admission for medical center employees, students, and their immediate family with a valid identification badge, while also offering lectures, workshops and other events on the medical center campus.
