Sen. Ebke praises UNMC’s use of technology

State Sen. Laura Ebke, who represents Nebraska’s 32nd Legislative District, visited UNMC on Nov. 3 and left with a better understanding of the state’s only public academic health science center.

“I wanted to get a picture of what’s going on at UNMC; what the needs are, and what’s being done here for Nebraska,” she said.

Plus, her husband, Russ Ebke, M.D., attended medical school here 30 years ago. He now practices family medicine in Crete, Neb.

“Great day in the Metro area of the state,” the Senator shared on her Facebook page after her visit. “Scored a tour at UNMC (got to see the famous biocontainment unit where they treated the Ebola patients)…”

Sen. Ebke also viewed the Anatomage table, a digital virtual anatomy table much like a human body-sized iPad. “As technology improves and expands, it’s good to see we’re using it to its highest potential,” she said.

During her visit, Sen. Ebke met with a handful of campus leaders including Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., Vice Chancellors Bob Bartee and Dele Davies, M.D., and College of Allied Health Professions Dean Kyle Meyer, Ph.D.
