Laurie Lauzon Clabo, Ph.D.

Laurie Lauzon Clabo, Ph.D., dean and professor at Wayne State University in Detroit, will give the UNMC College of Nursing Audrey Solberg Smith Lecture from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Jan. 13 at the UNMC Center for Nursing Science Building, Room 3030.

Dr. Lauzon Clabo will speak on “Education for Contemporary Practice: A Focus on Competency.” The presentation, which is geared to faculty but open to students as well, will:

  • Describe the history of competency-based education and current trends in competency-based education for nursing.
  • Explore competency frameworks for interprofessional practice and their application in nursing education.
  • Assess the implications of the application of competency-based assessment in contemporary nursing education, including implications for students, faculty and employers.

A reception also will be held from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

This annual lectureship in the UNMC College of Nursing honors an alumna and generous donor, Audrey Solberg “Solly” Smith, a 1947 and 1965 graduate of UNMC’s nursing programs.
