What sparked your interest in psychiatry?
So many things. First, I love the brain and the complex interaction between neuroplasticity and life experiences. I also have a little brother with severe autism, so working with this patient population has always been a career goal of mine. Lastly, the psychiatry department at UNMC has given me such a positive view of the field. From career opportunities to lifestyle to mentorship events, it has been apparent that this is the field for me!

Your favorite study snack is:
Sour Patch Kids — specifically the red ones. I have no self-control with them. It can be problematic.

Your favorite app is:
Tinder . . . Just kidding, Spotify. I love music.

Three things people may not know about you:

  • I’m in a band. I produce the tracks, lay the drums, and provide the vocals in the form of hip hop lyrics.
  • I’ve been to exactly one dozen countries.
  • One of my earliest memories is getting knocked out by a golden retriever. After that I was deathly afraid of dogs until the age of 20. Don’t worry, I love dogs now. Shout out to my two boxers, Beans and Zayne.

I worked with Matt on some research projects a few years ago. He was a wonderful student and I know he will make a fabulous physician. I wish him all the best!

Didn't know you're in a band, didn't know you've visited 12 countries, didn't know you were knocked out by a golden retriever, but did know you have two giant boxers, and all along, I thought I really knew you. Just goes to show how little we really know about one another. But I do know that I'm so proud of you and continue the good work you are doing, love you 🙂
