In November, the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center construction team completed another milestone with the installation of the needed skywalk framework for connection to the Hixson-Lied building.
Crews built the framework on the helipad of the C.L. Werner Cancer Hospital and worked on Sundays in November to minimize the impact to patients, families and staff. Once completed in 2016, the skywalk will provide access from the Hixson-Lied ORs to the new oncology ORs within the cancer center.
Also, the new skywalk over Emile St. connecting the Durham Outpatient Center (DOC) and Lot 50 (staff and valet parking lot south of Emile) is scheduled to open in early 2016. More details will be provided at a later date.
Reminder: Road closure of Dewey Avenue
Dewey Avenue is closed for road traffic until summer 2016. This closure allows site utilities and other construction activities to progress. Those planning to park in Lot 31 (near the Munroe-Meyer Institute and J.P. Lord School) should continue using the reopened Durham Research Plaza (formerly 45th Street) to access parking.
