On Sunday, 40 students in UNMC’s Division of Radiation Science Technology Education (RSTE) received a button-sized, circular, red pin.

The pin, which symbolizes the student’s dedication to the highest principles of respect, competency, service and integrity, was the high point of the division’s annual pinning ceremony.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to focus on professionalism,” said James Temme, associate director of the RSTE division. “The ceremony also provides a formal introduction to the field of radiation sciences and is a milestone in their educational pursuit.”

More than 200 people attended the Sept. 12 event in the Storz Pavilion.

During the ceremony, UNMC graduate student Rebecca Meyer emphasized the importance of patient respect and confidentiality and led students in an oath to emphasize the high standards expected of them as they care for patients during their clinical assignments. Mary Haven, associate dean of the School of Allied Health Professions, also gave an overview of the SAHP program.

The RSTE division includes the following programs: diagnostic medical sonography; nuclear medicine; radiography; radiation therapy; CT/MRI; and cardiovascular interventional technology.
