University has new relationship management system

University of Nebraska Foundation President and CEO Brian Hastings and University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds announced last month that the foundation will be investing significant time and resources to provide a constituent relationship management (CRM) system to facilitate the University of Nebraska’s advancement efforts.

Win a Kindle Fire

The university is getting a new advancement CRM and you can get a new Kindle. All you have to do is submit the winning name for the new CRM. Because let’s face it, CRM is not an exciting name. An advancement CRM is a database that will contain all of the university’s alumni, donor and friend information. The new CRM was announced by Brian Hastings and Dr. Bounds in December. Remember, the CRM will be used by all campuses of the university, all alumni associations and the foundation. Be creative! You can enter as many times as you’d like. Send your entries to crm@nufoundation.org. Entries will be accepted through midnight on Jan. 20.

CRMs are databases that hold all the critical information about a particular audience. An advancement CRM holds all the information about the university’s alumni, donors and friends and allows all users who work with that audience to easily access, update and use the information.

“All of us, whether we work for the university, alumni associations or the foundation, have interactions with alumni and donors,” Hastings said. “Being able to capture the preferences of each of those individuals as well as our interactions with each of them, and then to access that information anytime and anywhere, will allow us to have the smartest conversations possible and provide this important audience with a customized, consistent experience regardless of who in the university community is speaking to them.”

Hastings said the ultimate goal of the CRM is to create “one source of truth” about the university’s alumni, donors and friends.

University and alumni leaders have worked with the foundation to share the university’s requirements for a CRM and to share current university data practices, gaps and insights into its future needs. University representatives working with the foundation include:

  • UNMC – Dele Davies, M.D., Rod Markin, M.D., Ph.D.
  • UNL – Mark Askren, Diane Mendenhall, Donde Plowman, Ronnie Green
  • UNO – Lou Pol, Dan Shipp
  • UNK – Kelly Bartling
  • Central Administration – Dara Troutman, Walter Weir, Jenny Reeser

Those interested in learning more about the university’s advancement CRM can contact Hastings, their campus representatives or the foundation’s Mike Bird, who is leading this initiative for the university and foundation.

The “go live” goal for the advancement CRM is May 2017.
