College of Nursing West Nebraska Division recognized by NSNA
The National Student Nurses’ Association recently announced the UNMC College of Nursing West Nebraska Division in Scottsbluff is the recipient of its Stellar School Chapter Recognition. This program recognizes school chapters for their ongoing involvement in NSNA and their commitment to shared governance and professional development. The recognition will be presented at the NSNA 64th Annual Convention, March 30-April 3, 2016.

Dr. Dobesh paper draws interest from journal readers
A paper by Paul Dobesh, Pharm.D., professor of pharmacy practice, was one of the five most downloaded articles during the last quarter in the journal, Drugs. The paper was titled, “Direct Oral Anticoagulants for the Prevention of Stroke in Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation: Understanding Differences and Similarities.”

Center for Continuing Education collaborates on board review question bank
The UNMC Center for Continuing Education has entered into a collaboration with BoardVitals, an online board review question bank to provide continuing education credit for a wide range of specialty boards and Maintenance of Certification credit (MOC) for internal medicine and internal medicine sub-specialty content as well as pathology. As a result of that collaboration, UNMC students, residents, fellows and faculty are able to access content from BoardVitals for no charge by simply registering using their UNMC email address.

Paulmans publish several books
“Taylor’s 10 Minute Diagnosis Manual,” a book written by Drs. Audrey and Paul Paulman, both of family medicine, has been translated to Japanese. The Paulmans also have one of the three major family medicine reference books – “Taylor’s Principles and Practice of Family Medicine” – slated to be published this year in hardback form. Over the years, the Paulmans have published numerous soft cover books. This will mark their first hard cover book.

UNMC anesthesiologist named to National Technical Panel
A UNMC cardiac anesthesiologist, Ellen Roberts, M.D., has been selected by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to serve on the National Technical Panel. The panel is monitoring and refining PQRS Measure 44, which focuses on patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery. Dr. Roberts, who is vice chair of clinical operations in the department of anesthesiology, was chosen from a group of candidates from around the country, including cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologists, internists, and anesthesiologists. Steve Lisco, M.D., professor and chair of anesthesiology, said, “It is certainly a feather in Dr. Roberts’ cap, the department’s and UNMC, as it reflects acknowledgement of the vast experience we have with complex patients at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine.”
