Quentin Mays

Sixty members of the UNMC High School Alliance are among the students taking classes at UNMC this academic year.

The students come from high schools around Omaha and take college-level classes to prepare for health careers.

Today we meet:

  • Name: Quentin Mays
  • High school: Papillion-La Vista South High School
  • Year: Class of 2017

How did you learn about the UNMC High School Alliance?

I heard about the High School Alliance from my guidance counselor. She recommended this program to anyone who was interested in going into a health-oriented career.

What sparked your interest in science?

Many of my family members have health science backgrounds and my aunt had cancer. Being around doctors and nurses and the system sparked my interest.

What are your career aspirations?

My overall career aspiration is to go into cardiology, but because I am still in high school and cardiology is a long way down the road, my aspirations now are to get accepted into college and to continue to work hard.

What has been the best part of your UNMC High School Alliance experience so far?

The best part of my UNMC High School Alliance experience so far would be meeting all of the new people. I have learned so much from classmates and teachers, and it will be something that I will never forget.
