Interprofessional Academy of Educators seeks applicants

Applications for the UNMC Interprofessional Academy of Educators are now open.

The announcement was made this week by director Geoffrey Talmon, M.D., and associate directors Drew Patterson, M.D., Ph.D., and Kim Michael.

The new teaching academy will be a vibrant interprofessional community of educators which provides a resource to elevate the level of teaching across all colleges and share innovations with UNMC’s alumni and community partners.

The application period to be among its inaugural cohort runs now through May 31.

For more information, or to apply, go to unmc.edu/academy or facebook.com/unmcacademy.

The academy is open not only to full-time faculty, Dr. Talmon said, but also to any educator teaching UNMC students from the greater community and applicable UNMC staff. For example, staff directors and coordinators heavily involved in education are encouraged to seek academy membership.

Such membership will be more than honorary — the IAE will be an active society dedicated to improving educational standards and experiences for both teachers and students.

It will do so through three main goals:

  • Improve educational quality through innovation, curriculum design, and implementation of evidence-based teaching methods.
  • Promote the dissemination of UNMC faculty members’ educational innovation through scholarship.
  • Provide a mechanism for mentorship for new and developing faculty members with an interest in education.

Its first members are expected to be announced in late June or early July.
