While the Munroe-Meyer Institute is partnering with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services to raise awareness of respite resources throughout the state, MMI also is providing resources closer to home.

A new link on the UNMC benefits office “Work-Life Balance” page will direct UNMC employees and faculty to a variety of respite opportunities. Nebraska Medicine employees can find the link on the intranet Respite Resources page.

Respite offers family caregivers a temporary break from the ongoing demands of caring for their loved one with a disability or medical condition. Respite is provided in the home or while participating in community activities agreed on with the family caregivers.

“Caregivers need a break to care for themselves,” said Kim Falk, UNMC respite employer engagement coordinator. “Most caregivers don’t even realize respite resources are available. You qualify for respite if you have a family member with a disability, chronic health care condition or aging parents or grandparents. UNMC and Nebraska Medicine are partnering with Department of Health and Human Services of Nebraska to share respite resources with our employees.”
