Janet Henry
Janet Henry, an office associate at the Munroe-Meyer Institute’s Department of Education and Child Development, died Friday after a long battle with cancer.

Henry had been at UNMC for 20 years.

“Dedicated, quality, conscientious, hardworking are just some of the words that emerge when you think of Janet,” said Barb Jackson, Ph.D., director of the department’s Interdisciplinary Center for Program Evaluation. “She has been the backbone of our department, keeping things running smoothly and balancing the many demands of the job and supporting us all as well.

“But most important was her character. She taught us how to face the challenges of life, through her own courage and strength and positive approach to life.”

According to the Council Bluffs Nonpareil: Visitation with the family is 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a celebration of life service at 7 p.m., at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel, 545 Willow Ave., Council Bluffs. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in her name.

I knew Janet only through our institute lunches. She was always the first to arrive to help, and the last to leave with the clean dishes to return. She embodied the mission statement of service to others – with a wonderful smile. Se had my admiration and you have my sincere condolences…

Janet was our "Coordinator of Chaos" and that title doesn't do her justice-she will be missed beyond words not just for her vital role in our functioning, but also for her kind-hearted and giving nature. She showed us what dedication and strength in the midst of trials was and we'll miss that smile EVERYDAY!!!

MMI will not be the same- since the Education department moved to the Center I have missed seeing her walking the halls. Janet was always the go to person for MMI's picnics and even if you worked with her infrequently, like me, you could rely on Janet with her keen mind and attention to detail to get things done, or help you accomplish your goals. Our loss, heaven's gain.

Janet was strength and gentleness at her core; but wrapped in a fun-loving personality. I keep finding myself thinking selfishly of how much poorer our lives will be without her. Carol

Work around the office will not be the same without her, like mentioned before she was our pillar, our coordinator during chaos, the " do it all" or " HR department" how I used to called her, but most of all, we will miss her smile, her willingness to help others and her beautiful kindness even on her hardest days. You were loved.
