WE CAN Radio-thon features familiar UNMC voices

The second annual WE CAN radio event will kick off today and run through Friday on all seven NRG Media radio stations.

The Nebraska Medicine and UNMC community will hear some familiar voices. In addition to patients and family members who will share their stories, med center guests at the event will include:

7-9 a.m. today

  • Edibaldo Silva, M.D., Ph.D., professor of surgical oncology in the College of Medicine;
  • Andrew Coughlin, M.D., assistant professor of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery in the College of Medicine.

9-11 a.m. today

  • Tony Hollingworth, Ph.D., professor and director of pancreatic cancer research and director of the cancer biomarkers group, Eppley Institute, College of Medicine;
  • Jason Foster, M.D., assistant professor of surgical oncology in the College of Medicine.

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today

  • Allison Cushman-Vokoun, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of pathology/microbiology in the College of Medicine

1-3 p.m. today

  • Matt Lunning, D.O., assistant professor of internal medicine-oncology/hematology in the College of Medicine;
  • Sara Weging, staff nurse at Nebraska Medicine.

3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today

  • James Ford, D.O., assistant professor, pediatrics-hematology/oncology in the College of Medicine.

7-9 a.m. Friday

  • Rebecca Swanson, nurse practitioner at Nebraska Medicine;
  • Rudy Lackner, M.D., professor of surgery-cardiovascular and thoracic surgery in the College of Medicine.

8:45-10 a.m. on Friday

  • Angela Mortensen, social worker at Nebraska Medicine

1-3 p.m. Friday

  • Jennifer Black, Ph.D., program director, Gastrointestinal Cancer Research Program;
  • Jessica Kozel, M.D., assistant professor of pathology/microbiology in the College of Medicine.

4-6 p.m. Friday

  • Kenneth Cowan, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.

In addition to the physicians, researchers and health care professionals who will share their expertise, the two-day event will feature personal stories from cancer survivors, those battling cancer and family members. The goal of the event is to raise money for the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center.
