Lookin’ at U – Emily Lasky

Emily Lasky

Each Thursday, we randomly feature a medical center employee. This week, we learn more about:

  • Name: Emily Lasky
  • Hometown: Milwaukee, Wis.
  • Length of time at UNMC: Six months

Tell us about what you do here at UNMC.
I work in public relations as the special events and community relations associate. My job is to organize and promote various events around campus, including Spirit Day, building openings, the Distinguished Scientist Awards ceremony and activities hosted by the Joslyn and Durham Museums through our partnership programs. I also lend a hand in the Nebraska Science Festival and student picnics, and I manage the UNMC United Way Campaign.

“Being a trusted resource” is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group act as a trusted resource at UNMC.
Having worked at much smaller organizations before coming to UNMC (none of which were in the health care industry), I rely on the knowledge of all of the people I work with, not just in my department but throughout the entire UNMC community. Everyone I have talked to has acted as a trusted resource for me personally. I already have learned so much about the organization and what it means to be part of this community by communicating with those around me. There is so much knowledge to be shared here, and I am grateful to be part of it and learn more every day.

What is your favorite springtime activity?
I love to garden, although I’m not much of a green thumb. Most everything I plant tends not to survive for very long.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I lived in Ireland for four months during college.
  • I have been taking a class to learn how to make handmade chocolate truffles.
  • I was a dancer for more than 10 years.
