Astronomy organizations offer viewing of moon and Jupiter

To celebrate the International Sidewalk Astronomy Night, local members of The Sidewalk Astronomers, with the support of the Omaha Astronomical Society, invite the UNMC and Nebraska Medicine community to join them for public observations of the moon and Jupiter.

The Sidewalk Astronomers is a worldwide organization of amateur astronomers committed to bringing the wonders of the sky into people’s everyday life. On a clear night, they set up their telescopes in public places and offer people the opportunity to look through their “eyes to the sky.”

For this week’s viewing, the telescopes will be set up on the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday. Guests will be able to observe Earth’s only natural satellite, as well as the solar system’s largest planet with its four brightest moons.

Family and friends are welcome to attend. Parking is available in Lot 13 on 41st and Dewey streets.

The cloud/rain date is Friday at 8 p.m.
