Training room only latest library improvement

The new Wilson Training Room at the McGoogan Library of Medicine is merely the latest example of the library working to make the latest technology available to members of the UNMC community.

The room, available for meetings including videoconferences, training sessions, webinars and other uses, includes a personal computer, network connection, large screen projection, two 50-inch small-group monitors enabled for user connectivity from any personal device and interaction with the large screen projection, microphone system, and Echo 360 Pro for recording of presentations.

“Students and others can come in and interact with the room’s group monitors or large projection screen from any personal device,” said Laura Bashus, business operations administrator at the library. “Multiple users can connect to the technology and simultaneously share their work.”
The room was created to fill a campus need, she said.

“There is demand for rooms with similar technological capability created by colleges. The library is centrally located and available to anyone. This is an easily accessible resource for faculty, staff and students from any college or discipline.”

The new training room joins such recent additions to the library as the VERT and sonography lab (part of a partnership with the College of Allied Health Professions), e-learning space (a collaboration with Academic Affairs), and 3-D printers encouraging innovation and discovery.

“Libraries are responsible for delivery of knowledge and content to users,” Bashus said. “In addition to looking for ways to increase the content quantity, technological advancements allow us to provide content in new ways that are beneficial to users. Providing access to and encouraging exploration of new technology increases the user ability to successfully interact with that content and each other.”

The Wilson Training Room can accommodate up to 33 occupants and has a flexible seating arrangement. To reserve the room, contact Danielle Drummond by email or by phone at 402-559-6839. Availability can be seen on the Outlook calendar titled “Wilson Training Room, UNMC.”

I want to express my appreciation to the entire McGoogan staff for doing such a great job of transforming the library to accommodate new technologies and spaces adopted to promote alternative approaches to learning as you adjust to the disappearance of print materials. Kudos go especially to McGoogan Library Director Emily McElroy for her visionary leadership during these times of rapid change.
