Sarah Malik, M.D., is a new faculty member at UNMC.

  • Name: Sarah Malik, M.B.B.S.
  • Hometown: Peshawar, Pakistan
  • New title and department at UNMC: Assistant professor, UNMC Department of Internal Medicine

Research/Professional Interests:
My areas of research interest include internal medicine and gastroenterology. I have performed research into blood pressure variability in a veteran population, and looked at adherence to antihypertensive medications. I’ve also looked into recognition and management of neuroglycopenia after bariatric surgery and colonoscopic adenoma detection with accuracy of follow-up recommendations based on pathological analysis.

How I fell in love with internal medicine:
I love being an internal medicine physician. The field provides me the opportunity to see a myriad of conditions. It allows me to analyze and interpret tests and images, and is coupled with clinical interaction with patients and their families. I find the sum of all of this to be most gratifying. Furthermore, I’ve always sought to be able to make a positive change in people’s lives. Being a physician affords me the chance to do this every day.

Degrees:

  • M.B.B.S., Khyber Medical College, Pakistan
  • Internal medicine residency, University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Fargo, N.D.

Three things people may not know about me:

  • I really enjoy arts and crafts and glass painting.
  • I love traveling, visiting new places.
  • I love spending time with my husband.
