UNMC is currently taking part in the 2016 United Way Campaign. Each week during the campaign, we will feature members of the UNMC community who are United Way supporters.

Today, we meet:

  • Name: Denise Britigan, Ph.D.
  • Department: College of Public Health — Health Promotion, Social & Behavioral Health; Academic Affairs — Office of Community Engagement

The running total

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, UNMC achieved:

  • Donations of $87,179.52, more than 54 percent of the campaign goal of $160,000.
  • Employee participation of 15.9 percent. This year’s employee participation goal is 50 percent. Remember, using the UNMC eServ website to choose not to donate counts as participation.

Favorite United Way community partners:
Too many to choose just one! OneWorld’s Promotoras program, Charles Drew’s Homeless program, the Omaha Healthy Kids Alliance, the Nebraska Urban Indian Health Coalition — and many more!

Why I support the United Way:
Having just attended the 2016 Omaha Health Summit last week, it is easy to see how the United Way is a “change-maker” by impacting the health of our community through action! Approximately 150 attendees were brought together to learn about each other’s efforts and to take action to collaboratively make the system level improvements that are needed with the environmental, educational, and social services systems to improve everyone’s health. United Way already supports that effort!
