James Borer is joined by Yesenia Saucedo, 2, who is staying at the Ronald McDonald House with her family.

On a Friday they came,
With decorations galore.
UNMC’s radiation science students,
Opened the door.

To the Ronald McDonald House, all cozy and warm,
As the families braced for the holiday storm.
The students they scattered, a job to complete,
Bringing holiday cheer to the tiniest feet.

They hung garland and wreaths and holiday lights,
And watched children’s eyes dance in delight.
For the second year, students adorned seven trees,
Hung stockings, then ornaments, then left silently.

They’re a service-oriented bunch,
Radiation science director James Temme said.
Counting 30 student elves who brought holiday cheer,
To the families and children who stay there each year.

Note: UNMC’s Radiation Science Division includes radiography, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, radiation therapy, MRI/CT and CVIT.
