Mail Service to relocate Dec. 29, service temporarily suspended

picture disc.UNMC Mail Services, currently in the Academic and Research Services Building, will relocate on Wednesday, Dec. 29 to the east side of the newly remodeled Campus Training Center building along 42nd Street between Emile and Leavenworth streets. The bulk of the move will take place Tuesday, Dec. 28.

As a result, mail service will be suspended following the 11 a.m. mail run on Tuesday, Dec. 28 and resume for the 11 a.m. mail run on Wednesday, Dec. 29. If anyone has an urgent mail request during this period, they should call 559-5315 and special arrangements will be made, said Mary Bennie, manager of Mail Services.

“We’ll do the best we can with mail services during the relocation,” Bennie said. “But Tuesday and Wednesday will be exceptional with all of the movement and confusion and we want to make sure nothing is lost so we’re suspending service for that small amount of time. On Wednesday, we’ll be back up and running.”

Relocating UNMC Mail Services will pave the way for the renovation of the new, 11,825 square foot current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) Transplant Production Facility, which is designed to advance innovative therapies in oncology and transplantation.

Mail Service hours of operation and contact information will remain the same in the new location, Bennie said. Mail Services is open from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday (receipt only -no deliveries). Walk-in customers are welcome.

The new location will enable incoming and outgoing mail services to be on the same level, Bennie said. UNMC Mail Services processes an average of 200,000 pieces of outgoing mail and 314,000 pieces of incoming mail each month. There are 19 mail carriers, plus outside couriers, Bennie said.

UMMC Mail Services contact information remains the same: Processing and Delivery, 559-5315; Management, 559-4739; and fax no., 559-3646.
