TeamMates to discuss mentoring program on campus

Nebraska Medicine and UNMC colleagues are invited to attend an information session about the TeamMates mentoring program on Thursday.

A presentation will be given by legendary Nebraska Football Coach and TeamMates founder Dr. Tom Osborne. The presentation will discuss ways in which our employees can become a mentor in the community and the long-term importance of mentorship. The presentation will start at noon in the Sorrell Center, Room 2014, and will last one-hour in length. Come learn more about how you can make a difference in the lives of today’s youth.

Dr. Tom and Nancy Osborne founded the TeamMates Mentoring Program in 1991 in an effort to provide support and encouragement to school-aged youth. The goal of the program is to see youth graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. To reach this goal, youth meet one hour per week with a caring adult who serves as a mentor.

Mentors are volunteers from the community who have dedicated themselves to making a difference in the life of a young person. Mentors give youth a sense of hope, purpose and vision. The TeamMates Mentoring Program currently provides a mentor for more than 7,000 youth across Nebraska and Iowa, as well as in San Diego, Calif. To learn more visit their website.

I have my son on a lengthy waiting list for TeamMates. He is in need of a great male role model. I was told male volunteers are needed. Please consider.
