New UNMC Postdoctoral Association seeking members

There are 180 postdoctoral research associates and fellows at UNMC.

A small but growing group has banded together to form the UNMC Postdoctoral Association (UNMC PDA) and want to invite others to join.

“We really want to form a community among the postdoctoral fellows and research associates at UNMC to support one another,” said Vice President Denis Svechkarev, Ph.D.

Postdocs, Dr. Svechkarev said, find themselves a bit isolated at times since they are neither students nor faculty.

“We want to make ourselves known as part of the campus community,” Dr. Svechkarev said.

The group, he said will look for volunteer opportunities on campus and plan to host social activities to bring the group together. They also hope to host a speakers series in the future to discuss topics such as professional development and career perspectives.

The UNMC PDA is open to all postdocs on campus, whether they are in academics or on the clinical side, Dr. Svechkarev said.

“Our primary mission is to be inclusive and bring this unique group together,” he said.

Meetings are held the first Thursday of every month from noon to 1 p.m. in the Durham Research Center. The April 6 meeting will be in Room 4003. Those who do not have access to the DRC elevators are asked to contact the association prior to the meeting and then wait in the lobby of the research tower where someone from the group will come escort them to the fourth floor.
