Dentistry’s Beth Cullinane is Gold U winner

Beth Cullinane of the UNMC College of Dentistry is the Gold U winner for the first quarter of 2017.

Reception today

There will be a reception for Cullinane from noon-1 p.m. today at the College of Dentistry building in the Dixon Auditorium. Cookies and fruit punch will be provided.

Cullinane has been at UNMC 8 ½ years. She worked in the college’s orthodontic, pediatric and hygiene departments before she moved into her position as the dental clinic supervisor. She oversees nine appointment clerks and handles the student rotations and clinical schedules for all undergraduate and post-grad departments.

“Beth Cullinane is the kind of employee supervisors dream about – smart, hard-working, reliable, goes the extra mile, gets results, and interacts with people in a positive manner,” said Jim Gamerl, associate dean for finance and administration for the College of Dentistry. “She is a role model for all UNMC employees. She takes on the hardest, most difficult and complex tasks — things that might scare most people, but not Beth. She willingly embraces them – and then gets to work on achieving the desired outcome.”

Cullinane, however, credits her co-workers and staff for all the support they give her.

“The people here have made me what I am today,” she said. “Without the support of everyone I work with, I wouldn’t be successful in my position. Everybody who works beside me and with me has helped me grow into the position I’m in today.”

“Beth is a true team player who goes above and beyond to provide support and leadership to her staff, as well as to our faculty, students and patients,” said Janet Guthmiller, D.D.S., Ph.D., dean of the UNMC College of Dentistry. “She always seeks ways to improve our clinical operations and efficiencies, while also considering our students’ educational experiences and our patients’ clinical experiences. She has been a pivotal participant in the design and implementation of our new clinical model and our five-year strategic plan. We are honored to have Beth as a member of our College of Dentistry team.”

Cullinane also was feeling honored.

“This award is an incredible honor,” she said. “UNMC is a great place to work, and I am fortunate to work with amazing faculty, staff and students on a daily basis. I am extremely proud to be a part of UNMC.”
