UNMC College of Nursing to host nursing camp for high school students

The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing is hosting summer camps for high school students interested in nursing careers. Scottsbluff, Kearney and Lincoln still have some spots open.

UNMC’s nursing divisions at five sites across Nebraska are sharing a two-year, $665,266 grant to develop mentorship programs for high school students interested in pursuing careers in nursing. The “Nebraska Generation Link to Learn” grant is funded by the U.S. Health Resource Services Administration.

The grant funds ongoing mentorship, scholarship and clinical immersion activities at the five UNMC College of Nursing divisions in Scottsbluff, Norfolk, Lincoln, Kearney and Omaha. It connects high school students to nursing students and registered nurses with ongoing mentoring, shadowing and other activities throughout the school year.

Nursing instructors and students from community college and bachelor’s degree in nursing programs will share information about the nursing profession and experiences. Each division will have its own educational activities and a variety of hands-on and computerized simulation with high-tech human patient simulators. Some divisions may visit health care facilities.
