Dr. Stamler to receive honorary degree from Nipissing University
Nipissing University will bestow Lynnette Leeseberg Stamler,Ph.D., with an honorary doctor of letters on June 8, during convocation. The university, located in North Bay, Ontario, Canada, bestows its highest honor for understanding and support of Nipissing’s mission and embracing a connection with the institution. Dr. Stamler was the founding director of the Nipissing University/Canadore College Collaborative Baccalaureate in Nursing program from 2001 to 2004. A leader in the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing, Dr. Stamler was the first non-sitting dean or director to be elected president, serving from 2008-2010. She has practiced in numerous clinical areas, including the ICU, medical-surgical, dialysis, long-term care, rehabilitation, and home health. She has taught all levels of nursing education, from the diploma to the doctoral degree, and within institutions ranging from community colleges to a research-intensive medical center.

Dr. Sparks named to Children’s Hospital & Medical Center post
John Sparks, M.D., professor and chair of the UNMC Department of Pediatrics, has been appointed pediatrician-in-chief for Children’s Hospital & Medical Center.

Books of College World Series tickets available on campus
Books of College World Series tickets are now available on campus. Proceeds from the sale of the ticket books benefit The Lions Club, which supports low vision programs at UNMC. Books cost $90 and contain 10 general admission tickets each. Only cash or checks are accepted. Make checks payable to College World Series and send them via campus courier to Diana Schneider at ZIP 1225 with a return ZIP and your name. You also can purchase tickets at Diana’s office in University Tower, Room 3150. The College World Series will begin with an opening ceremony on June 16.
