Public invited to Destination Midtown forums

The public is invited to attend this week’s community forums on Destination Midtown and learn more about how they can be involved in the neighborhood development, economic development and transportation development programs.

“We certainly encourage the public, particularly those who live and work within the Destination Midtown boundaries, to become involved with our 2005 action plan,” said Bob Bartee, chairman of the Destination Midtown Board and executive assistant to the UNMC chancellor. “We also want to share activities that indicate great progress being made in the area.”

Tawanna Black, manager of the Destination Midtown initiative, agreed. “It’s important that people come to the forums because it’s a public driven process and everyone has something to contribute,” she said. “This is the heart of our city and a prime opportunity to find out how a person can be involved.”

The community forums will be:

  • Tuesday, March 8 at 6 p.m. at the Omaha Public Schools TAC Building, 3215 Cuming Street
  • Thursday, March 10 at 6 p.m. at Field Club, 3615 Woolworth St.
  • Saturday, March 12 at 10 a.m. at First Central Church, 421 S. 36th St.

The mission of Destination Midtown – an area bounded by Cuming Street, 24th Street, Center Street and Saddle Creek Road – is to create a premier urban environment where people want to live, work, shop and play.

The vision of Destination Midtown is to establish a nationally-known, vibrant and distinct urban environment that:

  • Promotes economic development opportunities;
  • Advances neighborhood goals; and
  • Forges unique partnerships.
