Leslie Scofield

Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.
I work in the UNMC College of Public Health with the Center for Preparedness Education and the National Center for Health Security and Biopreparedness. In my role as preparedness program specialist, I oversee development and delivery of education that focuses on public health emergency preparedness and response. I am fortunate to work collaboratively with multiple sectors including public health, health care, EMS on a regular basis. One of my favorite workshops to teach is a mass casualty triage workshop that involves stuffed animals as “victims.”

Teamwork is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us of a way you’ve seen teamwork at UNMC.

My work home is in the world of emergencies and disaster preparedness/response, so I regularly see teamwork in the form of multiple sectors coming together to plan, respond and recover to and from particular events. The collaboration involved with Ebola response that carries on to this day continues to highlight the teamwork between UNMC, Nebraska Medicine, public health organizations and numerous other sectors.

What is your favorite summer activity?

My husband and I very much enjoy kayaking and walking.

• I have five grandchildren.
• My husband and I owe UNMC a debt of gratitude for bringing us together.
• I have two little free libraries in my yard and manage the Omaha Area Little Free Libraries Facebook group (shameless plug).
