Terry Fairfield, president and chief executive officer since 1987, will retain the title CEO and become vice chairman of the board of directors on July 1, 2005. Clarence Castner, executive vice president, will assume the role of president and chief development officer effective July 1, 2005.

“The board is pleased to have a long-range leadership plan in place,” said Board Chairman Harlan Noddle. “Terry and Clarence have each demonstrated remarkable leadership and dedication to the foundation, and we’re confident the organization and the university will benefit from this new structure.”

Fairfield has served the foundation twice; first from 1977 to 1980 as vice president, and in 1987 he returned as president and CEO. During his tenure the organization’s assets rose from nearly $175 million to more than $1.1 billion, and almost $656 million has been transferred to benefit the University of Nebraska’s four campuses.

“This transition plan lays the groundwork for the next phase of success at the foundation,” said Fairfield. “As we continue to grow as an organization it’s important to have a strong leadership succession plan.”

Castner has served a variety of development and management roles at the foundation since beginning as a college-based development officer in 1993. He was named executive vice president in July 2001.

The University of Nebraska Foundation is a nonprofit corporation supplementing support for students, faculty, facilities and programs at the University of Nebraska’s four campuses through gifts from alumni, friends, corporations and other foundations since 1936. Its Web site is www.nufoundation.org.
