Jay Allison of O’Neill, Neb., M.D., has received the “Volunteer Clinical Faculty Award” from the national honor medical society of Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA).

The award honors volunteer faculty members who effectively and generously donate their time, skill and experience to teach medical students. A committee of medical students nominated Dr. Allison, who received his award at the annual AOA banquet on Thursday (March 31).

Faith Fitzgerald, M.D., an internist and professor of medicine and assistant dean of humanities and bioethics at the University of California Davis, Sacramento, was the banquet’s distinguished visitor. Earlier in the day, Dr. Fitzgerald gave the AOA lecture on “Teaching the Humanities in Medicine: The Magical Medical History Tour.”
