New approach to lumpectomy for breast cancer

On Oct. 17, Jessica Maxwell, M.D., assistant professor, UNMC Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology, will describe a new surgical technique to help women with breast cancer recover quicker emotionally and physically.

Her Olson Center Brown Bag luncheon presentation runs from noon to 1 p.m. in the Eppley Science Hall.

Dr. Maxwell will discuss her approach to performing lumpectomies with oncoplastic surgery – a technique for removing the breast cancer while retaining a normal breast shape. She also will explain which patients are optimal for this option and how it affects healing.
