  • Name: Razan El Ramahi, M.B.B.S.

  • Title and department: Assistant professor, infectious diseases, UNMC Internal Medicine

Research/professional interests:
Opportunistic infections in immunocompromised patient populations

How I fell in love with infectious diseases:
After I finished medical school, I worked in King Hussein Cancer Center in Amman, Jordan, for about a year and a half. I had the privilege to train to care for complicated and immune-vulnerable patients as a transitional internal medicine resident. While rotating on infectious diseases service, I fell in love with infectious diseases as a field and became interested in managing infectious diseases issues in the immunocompromised patient population. I love how infectious diseases is an intellectual field where the clinician is always challenged, especially when dealing with special patient populations and immunocompromised hosts. I also love that once you find the mystery behind what is making your patient sick, you get to help them feel better or cure them which is rewarding.

Three things people may not know about me:

  • I used to play basketball in high school.
  • Even though I am from Jordan, I lived in Saudi Arabia for the first 18 years of my life (more than I did in Jordan).
  • I like to ride my bike outside.
