Dave Carver, Ph.D., executive director of UNMC’s Counseling & Student Development Center, has received the State and Provincial Service Award from the Association of State & Provincial Psychology Boards. The ASPPB represents all psychology licensing boards in the U.S. and Canada.

The award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to licensing and certification in that person’s jurisdiction.

Dr. Carver served as the Nebraska voting delegate to ASPPB for seven years from 2009 through 2016, and also chaired the Nebraska board during that same time period.

As a member of the Nebraska board, Dr. Carver was instrumental in assuring that individuals applying for licensure received a fair and unbiased review. He also assisted with revising the board’s guidelines relating to conviction reviews; helped develop a brochure to assist candidates for licensure with their exam applications; and reviewed and drafted test items for the Nebraska jurisprudence exam.

Dr. Carver has participated on several ASPPB committees and task forces, on the American Psychological Association’s Advisory Committee on Colleague Assistance, and served on the Nebraska Psychological Association Board, where he also served as president.

Dr. Carver is a licensed psychologist, one of the longest serving ombudsperson at any academic institution in the country (his role at UNMC began in 1996) and is an adviser for the UNMC Student Senate.
