Jordanian Ambassador to the United States Dina Kawar dined at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center during this month’s visit to Nebraska.
On Nov. 3, Kawar had lunch with UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D.; College of Public Health Dean Ali S. Khan, M.D., M.P.H.; Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts; Ahmad Habashneh, Congressional Officer for the House of Representatives at the Embassy of Jordan in Washington, D.C.; and Lukas Wenz with U.S. Rep. Jeff Fortenberry’s office.
Kawar’s visit to Nebraska — part of an effort to strengthen connections between Jordan and America — included a trip to the State Capitol, Nebraska Innovation Campus and the medical center as she sought outreach and cooperation in agriculture, education and medicine.
During her campus visit, Dr. Gold highlighted the medical center’s global leadership in health education and biomedical research, its research and patient care capabilities and provided a tour of the cancer center. Potential collaborations in cancer prevention and research also were discussed. They also toured the medical center and the Chihuly Sanctuary.
The first Arab woman to ever preside over the United Nations Security Council when she led the Jordanian delegation, Kawar was named ambassador to the United States in 2016.
Her visit to Nebraska also included her first American football game.
