After nearly 30 years at UNMC, Wally Murphy, information technology services manager at the Eppley Institute, will retire on Dec. 7.

Wally joined UNMC on March 1, 1988. During his time on campus, he has held a variety of jobs, all in the IT field: data technician, information specialist I, II and III, and he was the original Help Desk person.

He has held his current position for the past 22 years. He is a two-time Silver U recipient and received the Gold U in 2008.

Murphy earned his degree in computer programming from Iowa Western Community College. He also holds numerous technical certifications.

“God has blessed me with a wonderful family and a great career,” Murphy said. “I know he will determine my future in the years to come, but for the time being, I will spend time with my family and friends helping out as needed.”

When looking back on his career at UNMC and Eppley, Murphy stressed the importance of taking time to really listen.

A reception will be held in Murphy’s honor on Wednesday, Dec. 6, from 2-4 p.m. in the Yanney Conference Center on the ground floor of the Buffett Cancer Center, Room BCC.0.12.103. The UNMC/Nebraska Medicine community is invited to attend and wish him well.
