Shortly after UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., added chancellor of the University of Nebraska at Omaha to his leadership responsibilities in April, he formed two transition teams.
The two teams — a Transition Advisory Council and a Transition Advisory Team — included UNO faculty, staff and administrators; UNMC faculty, staff and administrators; the UNO student regent; and community members who would help ensure a seamless transition of leadership.

Dr. Gold’s message to the transition teams:
It has been both an honor and a pleasure getting to know the UNO community over the past seven months. I knew when I accepted this role, that UNO’s contributions to Omaha and Nebraska were significant, but now I can see the potential is even greater than I could have imagined.
Getting to know the community through this transition process has been a gift. From the commitment and spirit of the people I’ve met, to what I’ve learned about what we should focus our attention on going forward, this journey has been invaluable to me.
I would like to thank the many faculty, students, administrators, campus leaders and community members who participated in the transition and who helped me to prepare to effectively take up my role as chancellor. This has been a remarkable effort. I recognize that the time commitment was significant, but I can assure you — I was listening and your guidance has influenced my thinking about what we need to do together to further advance UNO’s mission and to achieve our place as the preeminent metropolitan university in the country.
All of the work we have done is summarized in a multitude of reports that outlines the discussions over these past several months. They have been added to the Chancellor Transition Website. Further, I am announcing a campus forum to discuss any questions you may have about the transition or on any other topic such as strategic planning, accreditation, the budget, construction updates and any others. A date in January will be selected for the forum.
I am excited about the future and how UNO will continue to make a critically important contribution to Omaha, the state of Nebraska and beyond.
