Tell us a bit about what you do here at UNMC.
I manage UNMC’s primary social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn) and serve as an on-campus social media consultant assisting UNMC departments and colleges in developing and maintaining their own social media initiatives. I love working with people all over campus to share on social media all of the amazing things happening at UNMC.
“Accountability” is one of UNMC’s brand values. Tell us about a time you’ve seen the positive effect of accountability at UNMC.
Being transparent and honest is so important in social media, because it directly reflects our university and how we respond to circumstances in real time. I consider this value to be especially critical in crisis situations. I have witnessed individuals make decisions about how to handle a difficult situation on social media with complete transparency because it was the right thing to do.
What is your favorite winter activity?
I am a big Nebraska basketball fan and love going to Lincoln for as many home games as I can.
List three things people may not know about you.
- I have a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, and a bachelor’s and master’s degree in advertising/public relations from UNL. These two fields may seem very different, but I frequently use the skills set I acquired as a student teacher when educating others about social media.
- I freelance on the production crew at Creighton basketball and baseball games, where I am responsible for the replays on the big screen. I may not be a Creighton fan, but I love to watch great college basketball and work at live events.
- I love live music and try to go to concerts as often as I can. My favorite band is the rock band, The Killers. I am seeing them for the ninth time in a few weeks! My department knows whenever I am on vacation, it’s likely I’m traveling to see The Killers.
