Jen Bartholomew

Each Thursday, we feature a medical center employee. Today, we meet:

  • Name: Jen Barthlomew
  • Hometown: Lincoln
  • No. of years at UNMC/Nebraska Medicine: 14 years

Tell us about what you do here at UNMC/Nebraska Medicine:
I get the privilege to work for both UNMC and Nebraska Medicine to establish strategic facility plans, oversee construction/renovation projects, and support ongoing maintenance efforts. Our team supports approximately 10 million square feet across all UNMC and Nebraska Medicine locations.

Courage is one of UNMC and Nebraska Medicine’s ITEACH values. Tell us of a time you witnessed a person or group at UNMC/Nebraska Medicine exhibit this value.
I see colleagues displaying courage every day from small acts of asking questions or stopping to think through a scenario to larger ones. One of the most memorable acts of courage came during a building evacuation. Every person in the facilities department assumed a role to support the individuals being evacuated and identify the root cause. We had staff purchasing water for the displaced individuals, helping direct people across campus, helping to close down the building, and helping to identify the root cause of the event. It was a great display of our staff taking the courage to act and support the organization.

What is your favorite winter activity?

Attending Husker basketball, volleyball and football games.

List three things people may not know about you.

  • I studied abroad for a semester in Australia.
  • My immediate family has 10 degrees from the University of Nebraska, spanning three generations.
  • My undergraduate degree is in industrial engineering.
