Dr. Schenarts to receive Distinguished Master Educator Award
P.J. Schenarts, M.D., professor, surgery-general surgery, has been selected to receive the Distinguished Master Educator Award from the Association for Surgical Education (ASE), arguably the highest national award in surgical education. The Distinguished Master Educator Award is given annually to advanced career clinicians and/or M.S./Ph.D. educators who have demonstrated excellence as master educators recognized on the national and/or international level. In addition to recognized skills as an excellent teacher, nominees for this award must have an education portfolio with clear documentation of consistent educational scholarship and significant contributions to surgical education that are recognized to have national and/or international impact. He will be recognized at the ASE annual meeting to be held in May in Austin, Texas.
Dr. Shillcutt selected as speaker for YP Summit on March 1
Sasha Shillcut, M.D., associate professor, anesthesiology, will be a breakout speaker for the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce’s YP (young professionals) Summit on March 1 at the CenturyLink Center. She will discuss the importance of a growth mindset in overcoming setbacks and describe how resilience is a key factor in professional success and personal confidence. Emergency Medicine research abstract wins award at national meeting
A research abstract tied to the UNMC Department of Emergency Medicine received an award at the annual meeting of the National Association of EMS Physicians in San Diego earlier this month. The award was for the “Best Student/Resident/Fellow Presentation.” The project was titled, “Training in Prehospital Death Notifications Linked to Improved Provider Comfort and Preparation.”
Abraham Campos, M.D., a former emergency medicine resident at UNMC, was the lead investigator on the project. Dr. Campos is currently doing a fellowship in emergency medicine and will return to UNMC in July to become a full-time faculty member in emergency medicine. Eric Ernest, M.D., assistant professor, emergency medicine, also played a key role in the project.
UNMC graduate student one of 15 selected to participate in Early-career Hill Day
Kimiko Krieger, a fourth-year graduate student in the lab of Nick Woods, Ph.D., interim director of the Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics Core Facility, has been selected as one of only 15 people to participate in Early-career Hill Day through the American Association for Cancer Research. She will go to Washington, D.C., on March 6-7 to engage and educate key congressional leadership regarding the needs of cancer researchers, particularly those early in their careers.
