Funding available to enhance patient care

It can require creativity to find ways to improve and enhance patient care while being mindful of budget considerations.

“You know your job better than anyone and how you could positively impact your patients if you had a little extra money,” said Stephanie Fryers, manager of volunteer services at Nebraska Medicine. “The Nebraska Medicine Guild has money.”

Do you have an idea that would enhance patient care or impact community health with a broad public appeal? The Nebraska Medicine Guild invites you to submit a project funding grant application. Completed applications must be submitted by March 16. The guild will fund projects for as little as $50 up to many thousands of dollars.

In FY18, 47 projects totaling $124,974.90 received funding. Some of those projects included:

  • OB Incentive Program – Clarkson Family Medicine
  • Guided Imagery During Dialysis – Nephrology, Internal Medicine
  • Music as Medicine — UNMC
  • Massages for Cancer Patients — Village Pointe Cancer Center
  • Thumbies — Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)
  • Recreation Activity Items for Patient Care — Solid Organ Transplant (SOTU)
  • Healthy Huskers Teaching Kitchen — Psychiatry
  • Grieving, Comfort and Healing for Children and Families — Child Life
  • ALS Refueling Station – Speech Language Pathology MMI/UNMC and Nebraska Medicine Neurological Sciences

The monies raised for these projects come directly from the Nebraska Medicine Guild and its fundraising efforts throughout the year, including proceeds from the Clarkson Gift Shop and CornerStone Gifts.

To receive a funding proposal grant application, which explains the criteria for projects/grants and requests specific project/grant information, email Stephanie Fryers. Monies granted will apply to FY19 and will be available beginning July 1.
