Swetha Pedavally, M.D., is a new faculty member at UNMC.

  • Name: Swetha Pedavally, M.D.
  • Hometown: Andra Pradesh, India
  • Title and department at UNMC: Assistant professor, UNMC Department of Neurological Sciences

Research/professional interests:
I am a neurophysiologist with clinical interest in not only evaluating patients with a variety of general neurological disorders but also performing and evaluating important procedures like electromyography (EMG) and electroencephalography (EEG). My research interests are focused in epilepsy and neuromuscular disorders.

How I fell in love with neurology:
I fell in love with neurology during medical school, when I was taught how to diagnose a spectrum of neurological disorders through a detailed physical examination. I realized during my training the importance of performing neurophysiological studies for better understanding of the disease, which furthered my interest in the field. It is very gratifying to diagnose and manage various neurological problems; at times a small improvement can make a big change in a patient’s life when fighting a complex neurological problem.

Degrees:

  • M.B.B.S, MNR Medical College, India
  • Internship, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Jacobi Medical Center, Bronx, New York
  • Residency, UNMC
  • Fellowship in clinical neurophysiology, University of Illinois at Chicago

Memberships:

  • American Academy of Neurology
  • American Clinical Neurophysiology Society
  • American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine
  • American Epilepsy Society

Three things people may not know about me:

  • I love spending my time in the kitchen to cook ethnic Indian dishes.
  • My husband and I have a 3-year-old son, who is obsessed with numbers (he even remembers people with their house numbers or car numbers).
  • We also have an 8-month-old son who is trying to explore the new world.
