Parking lot rates to be adjusted July 1

Beginning July 1, Parking Services is adjusting parking lot rates to create a more equitable price structure for all motorists.

“The existing rate structure has become inconsistent and includes many different rates,” said Tina Spencer, manager of parking services. “Adjusting the lot rates will create a more fair, consistent and logical system for today’s parking environment.”

Employees will find the three-tiered pricing structure more logical than the current system, Spencer said, because it resolves the disparity in lot rates that has developed over the years in addition to the many changes to parking.

Overall, the plan reduces the number of employee rates – more than two dozen — to three categories: premium, $23 per month; average, $17 per month; and low, $10 per month.

The majority of medical center parkers will see no change in their monthly lot rate, or a decrease in their rates, Spencer said. Parking Services has not issued an across-the-board rate increase for three years.

In conjunction with the lot rate adjustments, Parking Services is moving most employees with assigned parking to lots west of 40th Street and closer to their physical work location.

“With the opening of Lot 50 (employee parking garage), normal transitions and other lot openings, we’ve been able to accommodate most employee parking requests,” Spencer said.

Anyone interested in changing their parking assignment, should contact Parking Services at 559-8580.

Parking fees are used for operations, lot repair and maintenance, snow removal, payment of leased lots, parking permits, parking enforcement and security, shuttle and jump start services.

Employees soon will be able to renew their parking. For the first time, permits will be renewed on a two-year basis and the existing hangtags and permits will be replaced with a single transferable sticker. Watch UNMC Today for more details.
