Silent auction funds CON alumni initiatives

The College of Nursing Alumni Association will hold its annual silent auction on Friday, June 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Durham Outpatient Center West Atrium. More than 120 items will be auctioned. All UNMC and hospital employees are invited to attend.

Below are examples of a few of the larger items being auctioned. For the complete list, visit the UNMC Alumni Association’s Web site.

  • A necklace, bracelet and earring set from Elisa Ilana;
  • Moissanite necklace from Malashock’s;
  • Four night stay at a cabin in the Black Hills; and
  • Seven to 10 nights at a home off the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State.

This is the sixth year the CON Alumni Association has conducted the silent auction. It has evolved from 50 items when it first started to more than 125 items today.

“We’re excited about the items we have for this year’s auction and thank the companies who donated them for making this event possible,” said Minnie Thornton, president of the College of Nursing Alumni Association. “The proceeds from this auction are very important to the association. Students are one of our top priorities. This auction helps fund many of the initiatives that help or recognize students.”

Those initiatives include presenting student research awards, providing patches given to students during the nursing induction ceremonies and giving awards that recognize student academic achievements.

The auction is held in conjunction with the College of Nursing Alumni Reunion, which begins today with the opening of the UNMC College of Nursing and Alumni History Museum and includes a daylong schedule of activities on campus Saturday. More than 100 nursing graduates are returning to UNMC this year for reunion activities.
