Retired Fremont physician named president of UNMC College of Medicine Alumni Association

The UNMC College of Medicine Alumni Association has appointed Duane Krause, M.D., as its new president. The Fremont resident will serve a two-year term on the 13-member volunteer board.

“I am quite honored to be selected as president and proud to be a graduate of UNMC,” Dr. Krause said. “I hope to get more alumni actively involved as well as do as much as possible for the current medical students.”

Before retiring last June, Dr. Krause was the medical director of the department of radiology at the Fremont Area Medical Center for 28 years. He graduated from UNMC in 1967 and completed a residency in internal medicine at Joaquin County Hospital in Stockton, Calif. He started working at the Fremont Area Medical Center in 1973. He currently serves as president of the Fremont Area Art Association.

As president, Dr. Krause presides over quarterly board meetings and several committees and is the primary spokesperson at alumni events. Nearly 2,000 physicians are members of the UNMC College of Medicine Alumni Association.

“Dr. Krause is very volunteer-oriented in his community,” said Jackie Johnston, director of UNMC alumni affairs. “We are privileged to have him serve as president.”

The alumni association promotes and supports UNMC College of Medicine programs, communicates with alumni through newsletters, reunions and special events, and encourages recognition of the medical profession and those who promote it. The alumni association began providing annual giving support to the College of Medicine in 1970, raising nearly $25 million to find scholarships, research stipends, a study lounge and the McGoogan Library of Medicine.
