“Preventing and Treating Stroke in Women: Why, When, and How?” will be the topic of this month’s Olson Center Brown Bag Luncheon.
Pierre Fayad, M.D., professor of neurological sciences at UNMC and medical director of the Nebraska Stroke Center at UNMC’s clinical partner, Nebraska Medicine, will speak at the event, from noon to 1 p.m. May 15 at the Eppley Science Hall Amphitheater.
Dr. Fayad will discuss the key symptoms of stroke and how it presents in women in particular, as well as strategies for managing and treating acute stroke.
According to the CDC, stroke kills approximately 140,000 Americans every year — that is one out of every 20 deaths! Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. is having a stroke and every 4 minutes, someone dies from stroke. If someone survives a stroke, many times they must deal with a serious long-term disability. And women are equally at risk of stroke.

The lectures are free, but there is a $10 fee to obtain nursing credit. Payment instructions will be given at pre-registration.
