First Responders Foundation Board tours UNMC

Members of the First Responders Foundation Board visited UNMC last week.

The group supports first responders in the Omaha community through various public safety and education programs. Its mission statement reads “to serve and honor all our first responders and their families, build appreciation and respect for their work, and enhance public safety.”

Most of the 16 members of the group who attended were making their first visit to UNMC and the iEXCEL Simulation Center.

The board members toured the SIM-Nebraska truck and the iEXCEL Visualization Hub during their visit.

Al Batschelet, president and CEO of the board, was impressed by the technology on display at UNMC.

“As part of our efforts to support first responders, we think that some of the programs at UNMC fit nicely with our mission, and we’re considering becoming part of the programs offered here,” he said.

Mikala Harden, founder of Say Hey There LLC and a marketing professional for the foundation, found the SIM-NE truck especially noteworthy.

“I know how hard it is for rural first responders to get experience,” she said, adding that the sim truck would be a valuable resource in the state.
