Parking Services introduces new permit, renewal process

Parking Services is introducing a transferable parking permit this month, as well as a two-year parking renewal process.

“We’re excited to introduce these changes to our employees,” said Tina Spencer, manager of Parking Services. “The permits and the longer parking renewal period will better serve the medical center’s motorists.”

Transferable Permit

The new transferable permit, which takes effect July 1, will be more convenient for employees, as well as improve parking enforcement on campus. The transferable permit, which will replace the existing back window sticker and hanging permit, must be displayed on the inside of the front windshield in the lower left hand corner.

“The change in permit placement should make it easier for most employees to remember to transfer the permit from one vehicle to another,” Spencer said.

The transferable permit also will improve parking enforcement efforts, Spencer said, because officers will be able to scan the bar code on the permit and have immediate access to the employee’s parking history.

Since the permit is transferable, employees will receive only one permit at the time of renewal. Permits that are lost should be reported to Parking Services immediately.

Every other year renewal

With this year’s parking renewal, employees will renew their parking for a two-year period, instead of the traditional one-year period. Hospital employees can renew their parking by going to the hospital Intranet and clicking on “Parking Services” in the Employee Resources section. UNMC employees can renew their parking through the ESS-Med Center site on the Intranet. Employees who don’t renew online will be sent renewal forms via campus mail. All renewals should be completed by June 30. Permits will be valid through June 30, 2007.

As in the past, all contract, temporary and casual employees can purchase parking on a month-by-month basis. They will be issued temporary hanging permits.
