Forum explores triumphs, tribulations of LGBTQ+ community

On Friday, June 22, in support of Pride Month and the UNMC LGBTQ+ Employee Alliance, the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine and the Office of Healthcare Ethics will jointly host a Schwartz Center Rounds titled “Living an Authentic Life: Triumphs and Tribulations of LGBTQ+ and Allies.”

The multidisciplinary forum, which will be held as part of Internal Medicine’s grand rounds, enables clinical caregivers to discuss social and emotional issues that arise in caring for patients. UNMC and Nebraska Medicine students and employees are invited to attend the forum from noon to 1 p.m. in the Durham Research Center auditorium. Lunch will be provided.

Panelists include:

  • Ruth Marimo, motivational speaker, author, activist;
  • Jean Amoura, M.D., UNMC associate professor, obstetrics and gynecology, Olson Center for Women’s Health;
  • Megan Smith-Sallans, psychotherapist, Megan Smith Psychotherapy, P.C.;
  • Evan Peavey, activist; and
  • Jacob Dahlke, moderator, bioethics, UNMC College of Public Health.

The Schwartz Center Rounds are regularly presented by the Office of Healthcare Ethics and held the third Wednesday of every month. Continuing Medical Education and Continuing Education Units are available for eligible staff.
