Med center can view Dr. Wigton’s art during free reception July 13
The medical center community is invited to view paintings by Robert Wigton, M.D., in an exhibit that runs from July 11 to Aug. 4 in the Front Gallery at the Connect Gallery and Studios, 3901 Leavenworth St., Omaha. A reception with food and drink also is open to the public on July 13 from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

Dr. Wigton, assistant dean of special projects in the College of Medicine, is a 1969 alumnus of the College of Medicine who served as professor in internal medicine at UNMC. He will be showing watercolors of his “Observations of Nature” collection. He is a keen observer of both natural features as well as native plants and animals of the vast North American Prairie.

“This is my second exhibit as featured artist at the Connect Gallery, and I will show more than 20 new paintings in this current exhibit,” Dr. Wigton said. “I enjoy painting and have been able to devote more time with painting and photography since I became part-time on the faculty several years ago.

“I have been painting more watercolors versus oil lately and spending more time painting out in nature. I try to sketch out-of-doors whenever possible, especially on vacations. I’ve been happy to get to know and learn from other Omaha artists. Omaha has a great amount of talent.”

Free parking is available at the gallery in two lots next to the building entrances. Some of Dr. Wigton’s paintings can be seen here.

Nebraska Football Road Race to benefit pediatric brain cancer research
Registration is open for the Nebraska Football Road Race on July 15, in which 100 percent of the funds raised will go directly to pediatric brain cancer research at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center. The 5K and one-mile run will begin at 8 a.m. at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. Online registration is open until Tuesday, July 10 at midnight CST. After July 10, individuals can register in-person at The Lincoln Running Company for a late registration fee. The Nebraska Football Team has a history of supporting the pediatric brain cancer community, sparked by the 69-yard touchdown run of pediatric brain cancer patient Jack Hoffman in the 2013 Spring Football Game. Since then, the Road Race has helped raise more than $100,000 for pediatric brain cancer research.
